2 Reasons Police Can Search Your Car

According to the Chicago Tribune April 22nd article, The US Supreme Court put new limits on police officers searching your vehicle. In a surprise, the Supreme Court ruled that police officers can only check your vehicle if weapons are potentially in reach of the suspect, or if there is reason to believe the car contains evidence related to an arrest.

This was of light of an incident that happened Tuscan, AZ. Rodney Gant was arrested for driving on a suspended lisecense. The officers found a gun and cocaine in his jacket when they searched his vehicle. He was then convicted on drug charges. The Arizona Supreme Court throw out the evidence on grounds that the search of the car without warrant was unreasonable.

Did you hear that! Those are the only reasons that officers can now search your car under the new laws. So don't let an officer ever tell you that he or she can search your vehicle for other reasons. That is a direct violation of your constitutional rights! Go out into your respective communities and let everyone know, so that they can now understand their rights!
